Steve Glazer Opens Commanding Lead in 16th Assembly District Fund-Raising

Orinda City Councilman Steve Glazer's Assembly campaign reported $245,000 in donations in the first half of 2013, putting him in the top tier of fundraising for challengers in an open seat across California. Glazer received 499 donations from 445 individuals and 54 businesses and associations. He reported $236,000 in cash on hand for the primary election that will be held on June 3, 2014.

Glazer has a commanding lead over his announced opponents in the 16th Assembly District, in total fundraising as well as cash on hand. Newell Arnerich reported raising $50,000 with $31,000 remaining after paying past due expenses and loans. Tim Sbranti raised $110,000 and had a balance of $90,000 after paying past due expenses. Catharine Baker reported no fundraising for the period.

Glazer is a three-term Orinda City Councilman and has served for two years as the city's Mayor. The district includes nine small cities and towns, including three in Alameda County; the majority of its residents live in Contra Costa County. The seat is currently held by termed-out Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan.

“I couldn't have asked for a stronger start to my Assembly campaign,” Glazer said. “So many friends and neighbors stepped up early because they understand the importance of fixing state government. Many more said they will help me as the campaign progresses.”

Glazer's contributors include numerous school board and city council members from the 16th District, and many colleagues from the California State University Board of Trustees, where he is currently serving in his third year.

“I'm not surprised at the depth and breadth of his early campaign support,” said Orinda Mayor Amy Worth. “He has given so much of his time to important civic efforts. There is great enthusiasm about his candidacy!”

“All who know Steve Glazer realize he has the right experience and values to get things done in Sacramento,” said Lafayette Vice Mayor Don Tatzin. “People are tired of the status quo, and they want their voices heard.”

“Steve brings a combination of independent judgment and knowledge that he will use to ably represent our communities in Sacramento”, said Walnut Creek Council Member Robert Simmons.

“Steve has been a local champion for our public schools,” said Acalanes School Board Member Susie Epstein. “He will be a leader for effective education policy and funding in Sacramento.”

At the state level, Glazer’s public policy efforts span three decades and include landmark achievements in the areas of conservation, public safety, affordable housing, and fiscal reform. At the local level, Councilman Glazer has helped the City of Orinda balance its budgets and pass school funding measures. He also serves on the Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority Board, and California State University Board of Trustees, where he working to limit tuition increases and lower administrative costs.

As an advisor to Governor Brown, Glazer helped return California to solid financial footing, efforts he will make a priority in the State Assembly. Known for his independent, consensus-building approach, Glazer will also focus on environmental protection and improving our public schools from kindergarten through college.

Glazer has worked on environmental and business endeavors throughout California and the United States. His network of support was reflected in the campaign receiving more than $40,000 in on-line contributions during the final 14 days of this reporting period.
