Strike stress: Orinda City Councilman and Democratic state Assembly candidate Steve Glazer got a little more attention than he bargained for the other morning when he was canvassing commuters on the idea of banning public transit workers from striking.
As the TV cameras covering the event at the Orinda Station were packing up, an off-duty BART worker joined in the debate, repeatedly interrupting Glazer as he was talking to riders.
When a Glazer supporter pulled out his cell phone to record the encounter, the worker grabbed it - then gave it back.
A newspaper vendor called BART police, and when they arrived, the BART worker charged that Glazer had stepped on his foot.
A BART supervisor was summoned to the station, and the employee was taken to John Muir Medical Center for treatment of "anxiety issues."
A little while later, Glazer was having coffee in the nearby Europa Hofbrau when another BART worker came up to his table and told him, "Every union is going to come out against you - you have sealed the nails on your coffin."
